EVENSVILLE, TN - Southern Valley has announced some big changes in play for its eighth season in Tennessee, following a year of growth in acreage and storage.
“We have always had pristine crops in Tennessee. Soon we will also have larger facilities to cool and ship those crops,” said Director of Sales, Dug Schwalls, in a press release.
NORMAN PARK, GA - Convenience and extended shelf-life, a combination that pleases both the consumer and the retailer, is now being offered by Southern Valley Fruit and Vegetable in a newly-launched 2lb bag for its yellow squash and zucchini.
Showcasing the produce itself with a transparent front that presents the yellow squash and zucchini for the shoppers to see, these new 2lb Grab & Go bags live up to their name from the packaging handle to help in the kitchen the consumer might need.
In parts of South Georgia where neighbors are considered family and being a farmer is a lifestyle, the Hamiltons now have three family generations that pour the same sense of community into the Southern Valley growing operation. Since its inception in 1987, Southern Valley has gone from a four-person effort to a widely recognized business that supplies produce to retail chains throughout the United States. Kent Hamilton, a sixth generation farmer, started Southern Valley Fruit and Vegetable, Inc. in 1987 with his father, brother, and a friend. By 1991, Kent lost both his father and brother — leaving him and his mother, Wanda, sole owners of the farming operation.
Over the years, they brought trusted family and community members into the company to grow the operation. Southern Valley is now a progressive and innovative grower, packer, and shipper while remaining true to its traditional farm roots and family values.
From seedlings just starting in the greenhouse to rows upon rows of pole-grown cucumbers, Southern Valley Fruit & Vegetable (Southern Valley) has made a mission of growing, packing and selling one of the most sought after labels of cucumbers in the produce industry. Growing on more than 2,000 acres in Norman Park, Georgia, as well as farms in rural Tennessee and in the Yucatan, Southern Valley is a major player in the produce industry.
Southern Valley Fruit & Vegetable has made several facility and internal improvements over the past year.
Dug Schwalls, director of sales for the company, headquartered in Norman Park, GA, said, “We added nearly 80,000 square feet of cooling space to our Georgia facility this year. And we have installed a new squash packingline in the past year.”
